Re: 19.33 - Preliminary Report - 698, 700, 702, 704 and 706 Spadina Avenue and
54 Sussex Avenue
I am writing to express our dismay and dis-satisfaction with the proposed development.
This proposal emulates the disaster at 245 College Street which has been visited on the
Grange neighbourhood.
Over the past months, we have joined with other residents associations adjacent to the
University of Toronto requesting that this site in the Harbord Village area be treated
with care and respect for the attributes of this community.
We have asked the University:
- Not to export their heights outside of the main campus;
- To eliminate the cafeteria and to provide food services across Spadina Avenue at other
campus locations such as New College which is adjacent. This would minimise
shipping, receiving, food waste, traffic, etc.;
- To retain the book store building at Sussex and Spadina;
- To have respectful transitions into the neighbourhood west;
- To address the Robert Street field;
- To utilize a unit arrangement which would provide for long term use by local
residents should there no longer be the need for a residence, so that building can
function with independent apartments.
All of our requests have fallen on deaf ears.
We regret that once again the surrounding neighbourhoods are at odds with the university.
